Personal · 2024
Washing lines, cats and neighbours on steep stairs.
Alfama Afternoons is a series of gouache drawings made on location over one summer. Each piece records an ordinary moment in the neighbourhood around my Lisbon flat.

Challenge
Drawing outdoors in strong sun, with people moving in and out of the scene.
Approach
Quick pencil notes on site, then colour added the same evening from memory, keeping the drawings loose and warm.
Result
Twelve drawings became a set of art prints, and the series led to the Literary Giants commission.
