Last orders, drawn from the corner table.
A full-page illustration for a feature about neighbourhood bars that stay open after midnight, and the people who keep them alive.
Challenge
Capturing a crowded scene with many characters while keeping the image readable at newspaper size.
Approach
I spent two evenings drawing in the bar, then composed the final image around the bartender, with regulars arranged in layers of warm light.
Result
The illustration ran across a full page in the weekend edition and was later sold as a limited print.
