Ten authors, drawn as people rather than monuments.
Larch Books commissioned ten portraits of classic authors for the covers of an anniversary series. The editors wanted the writers to look approachable, as if you might meet them in a café.
Challenge
Many reference photographs were formal and stiff, and the covers had to work as a set on a shelf.
Approach
Each author is shown doing something ordinary, such as reading a paper or holding a cup, with a shared palette and framing across the series.
Result
The series was displayed as a full set in bookshops, and the portraits were released as postcards.
